Learn horseback archery
The BHAA itself does not offer regular training; our role is to oversee the sport in the UK although we do organise events and open training days too. For anyone interested in learning or practising mounted archery on a regular basis, they can contact one of our member clubs who work in the interests of the BHAA and the sport generally. Each club has its own set-up, resources, styles, horses, training methods, etc. However all follow the BHAA code of ethics and practices. As a result you can feel assured that when you train with a BHAA club, you get quality tuition in a safe environment.
Clubs offer "taster sessions" or "have-a-go" sessions initially, after which those that want to take the sport seriously need to become members of the BHAA. For more information on becoming a member you can contact us or simply fill out the Membership form.
Horseback Archery Clubs
As a fledgling sport we do not yet have clubs across the UK - although this will change! If you are interested in setting up a club please contact us to see how we can assist you.
At present, you can go to the following to start learning or practising:
> Tuba Horseback Archery - based in South Petherton, Somerset.
> Ashmoor Horseback Archers - based near Tiverton, Devon.Under development
> Japanese Horse Archery UK - based near Bath, Somerset Under development
Equipment
Equipment wise, you should ask your club what they can provide for you. Usually all horse related equipment is provided by the club. Initially most clubs will offer club bows and arrows for beginners although eventually members must buy their own equipment. Your club can advise you on what to buy and where from.
Insurance
As an organisation we currently do not insure members. Insurance is difficult to find for horseback archery, however Sports Cover Direct offer a policy called "SportsGuard" which will cover you for the sport. For a quote or to take out a policy please click:
