Learn horseback archery

The BHAA itself does not offer training; our role is to oversee the sport in the UK although we do organise events and open training days too. For anyone interested in learning or practising mounted archery on a regular basis, they can contact one of our member clubs who work in the interests of the BHAA and the sport generally. Each club has its own set-up, resources, styles, horses, training methods, etc. However all follow the BHAA code of ethics and practices. As a result you can feel assured that when you train with a BHAA club, you get quality tuition in a safe environment.

Clubs tend to offer "taster" or "have-a-go" sessions initially, after which those that want to take the sport seriously need to become members of the BHAA. For more information on becoming a member you can contact us or simply fill out the Membership form below.

At present, you can go to the following BHAA affiliated tclub(s) to start learning or practising:

> Tuba - based in South Petherton (Somerset) and Croydon (Surrey).

> The Centre of Horseback Combat - based in East Sussex.

Affiliate to the BHAA

For clubs wanting to affiliate to the BHAA we simply ask that the lead trainer at the club is a) recognised as proficient in horseback archery b) is a member of the BHAA c) ensures all trainees become members of the BHAA and d) pays a small yearly fee to the BHAA.

If interested, please contact the Chairman or Membership Secretary first to disucss your application. You will eventually need to download and fill in the >> Club Application Form (also in PDF).

Equipment

Equipment wise, you should ask your club what they can provide for you. Usually all horse related equipment is provided by the club. Initially most clubs will offer club bows and arrows for beginners although eventually members must buy their own equipment. Your club can advise you on what to buy and where from.

Insurance

As an organisation we currently do not insure members. Insurance is difficult to find for horseback archery, however we do have an agreements with two companies that can cover the sport. They offer favourable rates as well as a commission to the BHAA for each policy we send their way! Please read more at > Horseback Archery Insurance.
