About us

The organisation is the outcome of years of work by the few people interested in promoting horseback archery in the UK. Most notably Hilary Greenland, Secretary of the SPTA, organised events and brought people together who were either interested in the sport or practising it. Following such an event on November 3rd 2007 held in Somerset, attendees agreed to establish the BHAA in order to create a more structured approach to the development of the sport.

The BHAA is dedicated to helping people learn the sport, establishing clubs across the UK, offering guidance on H&S issues, organising and overseeing competitions and helping send teams to represent the UK to international competitions.

We are open to anyone regardless of faith, colour or creed. We follow a simple philosphy: if you love horseback archery you are part of the family. We are also strictly non-exclusivist in terms of the style of horseback archery our members practice. As long as it is practised in a safe and responsible manner, with humility and respect to others we have no issues. We do not follow, adhere to or take guidance from any particular teacher, mentor or organisation although we do of course have affiliates with whom we work closely such as the Steppenreiter of Germany and the World Horseback Archery Federation based in Korea. Our members are free to practise Yabsame, Korean, Hungo-Germanic styles, etc.

If you would like to get involved please contact us for more information.
